The Big Beech

We used to climb up big beech

All of my friends and me

We would imagine a big ship

Sailing in the deepest sea.

We used to hide by big beech

Spying on the world

And like mighty warriors

Launch an attack on unsuspecting girls

We sat on the top of big beech

And dreamt of being hawks

In a world without any language

Just laughter and actions and squawks

We used to hang from big beech

Lumbering as slow as sloths

With hand over hand and foot over foot

Being careful not to fall off.

But now they have chopped down big beech

And all the laughter has gone

It sits on the ground dead and brown

And all our games are gone.

As time goes by things live and die

Boys will grow to men

But fun will go though we have gone

For we will plant again.
