SYDNEY WEBB'S CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY DIARY
Day One: December 31st 2006
New Year's Eve
Faraway, I could hear the loud, frightening fireworks, exploding into the night sky. I heaved up from my comfy chair in the living room and stiffly walked over to have a look. I didn't see any of the loud, noisy fireworks. I felt sad that I didn't see any because I like fireworks, especially the smell.
It was about 9 o'clock. Some people stay up until Midnight. I asked Mum if I could. Mum said that if I stayed up late then I'd be tired and grumpy the next day. I said I took that as a no. Then Mum changed her mind. I really felt as if I had the nicest parent in the world. I felt so happy. But if I wanted to stay up I had to read. I felt too tired to read, but it was the only option. I ended up not staying up until Midnight. I fell asleep before 11pm. It was so unfair.
Day Two: January 1st 2007
New Years Day
When I woke up it was a bright, sunny day. Both my Grandmas came up to celebrate the New Year with us. Before Dad picked them up, Robyn and I played with my Sims game on the computer. I was given the game for Christmas and it's really good fun.
Mum cooked salmon for lunch. Not my favourite! Fortunately we had brownies and ice cream for pudding. After lunch, I was able to watch a TV programme. The programme was about the Greeks. I enjoyed it very much. We had a bit of tea and then we watched Wind in the Willows. I already knew most of the story because the Lower Prep Production did it. The TV version was very funny and made me laugh. Afterwards I was tired as it was bedtime.
Day Three: January 2nd 2007
Tuesday
Dad had to go back to work. When I woke up he was gone. I dressed and came down early because Vicky was coming to play for the whole day. I felt very happy because I thought that she couldn't make it in these Christmas holidays.
Her Mum brought her at 10 o'clock. First, I showed her my Sims game and we had a little play on it. After that we did some drawing. Vicky copied a china plate that Robyn had made and I copied a photograph of me as an evacuee girl. Then we had lunch.
Later we had four chocolates each. We ate them in the climbing frame in the garden. Vicky felt sick because she ate a chocolate with a nut inside and she's allergic to nuts. Because Vicky didn't feel very well, we did some more drawing in the kitchen. Luckily Vicky was alright so we tidied up the doll's house.
At 5 o'clock, Vicky's Mum came to take her home. It had been a really special day.
Day Four: January 3rd 2007
Wednesday
I spent most of the morning in my room playing with my cuddly toys - picnics with my bears. Then I did a bit of drawing and I played on the computer. After we had had lunch, Robyn, Mummy and I drove in to Alton.
Our first stop was the doctors. We needed booster injections so that the injections last year would keep working for another 25 years. Mum had hers done first, I bravely followed and Robyn was a wimp!
Mum had a couple of errands to do, so we popped into Crystals for a new watch battery for her, and then the Post Office to send back Dad's jacket which was too small.
After that we walked up to the greengrocers opposite Woolworths to buy some daffodils for our Grandad's little gardens in the cemetery. Robyn and I like to go to the greengrocers because we can see Robert, the shop's cat.
Our last stop was placing the daffodils in Grandpa Richard and Grandpa David's little gardens. I like to think about them when I'm there. It started to rain so we rushed back to the car and drove home.
Day Five: January 4th 2007
Thursday
After breakfast, I wanted to make sure that my toys were put away neatly so I had a quick look. Everything was fine but I just needed to tidy my desk. When I had done that I started to copy a photo of me and my cousins. I didn't get round to finishing it but I felt happy of what I did.
Mum said that I could play on the computer so I played on my penguin game. I didn't want to do the Sims. Then we had lunch.
After lunch Mum suggested that we should go to the Library. Robyn didn't want to go so Mum drove me instead. While Mum paid for the parking space, I waited inside the car. Then Mum let me out of the car and we walked across to the Library.
I told Mum that I was looking for the Horrid Henry Series. I found it. There were only two books left. Maybe Horrid Henry was popular or there are more interesting books than Horrid Henry. I took out the last two books. One was called Horrid Henry and the Boggy Baby Sitter and the other one was called Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse. I started to read a bit of Horrid Henry and the Boggy Baby Sitter. Then Mum said that we should have a look at the DVD's. I chose Princess Diaries because I hadn't watched it in ages. Finally Mum paid and we drove home. I read the rest of Horrid Henry in bed.
Day Six: January 5th 2007
Friday
Dad worked from home today which meant I could stay at home while Robyn and Mummy drove up to the Feibusch's house because Robyn and Rachel were having English lessons together.
When I work up I worked on a puzzle in my bedroom. The puzzle was a map of the world. Even though I have done it before, I still find it difficult because the pieces are very small. I completed it in about half an hour.
Then I found my paints and set them up on the kitchen table. I planted a flower. I like to paint flowers because they're easy to do. I felt quite pleased with my painting.
Robyn and Mummy came back and then we all had to go out. Dad had to go out to a meeting and Robyn, Mummy and I had to go to Robyn's appointment with the orthodontist in Alton. He told her that her brace would be ready at her next appointment. I teased her on the way home that she wouldn't be able to eat any more sweets or chocolate. She was cross and hit me.
We had a late lunch. Afterwards we watched Princess Diaries. It was so interesting and such fun that I want to see it again.
Later I tried to make a Time Machine but I wasn't very happy with it and gave up. We all had supper together and then it was bedtime.
