African Rhythm at Edgeborough

The sound of African drums resounded at Edgeborough last Wednesday, as the Pre Prep Department (aged 4 to 7) enjoyed a fantastic workshop led by Kristian Bediiak, a Ghanaian by birth. Dressed in a fabulous purple outfit, he soon had the children dancing, singing and playing the drums as if to the manor born. The children of the Robins and Wrens (Reception) classes are studying Africa as a topic this term, and what could be more inspirational than the heartbeat of the rhythm of ethnic music. Everyone had a most enjoyable time, as Kristian encouraged each child to shed their inhibitions and go with the beat. The weather was kind, so much of the workshop took place in the Open-air theatre, as can be seen in the picture. The Headmaster, Richard Jackson, who himself spent many years in Africa, was delighted with the event. ‘It was wonderful to have Kristian here with us’, he said, ‘and it was a great and memorable experience for the children.’
