The Edgeborough Centenary Building - September 2006

When Edgeborough moved to its new site at Frensham Place in 1939, the elegant buildings and estate were then gradually converted to make it suitable for a preparatory school. Since the headship of Richard and Maureen Jackson (1992 – 2006), this building development has continued apace, many beautiful new facilities being added to enhance the children’s education.
The most recent of these, opened in September 2006 by the Mayor of Farnham, is a state of the art Science and Technology Block. This ‘Centenary Building’ is the brainchild of Maureen Jackson in consultation with the Science and Technology staff, designed by MHB Architects of Godalming and built by Deeks and Steere.
The facilities in this new building are second to none – two Science laboratories, ICT suite, library, animal room and classrooms – and the striking modern design is a true reflection of its status as a 21st Century structure. The building is much used, and in this picture, taken by Martin Rice Photography, we see some Edgeborough boys and girls perched next to a fascinating external feature, the stainless steel armillary sphere, a sundial with a difference!
Richard Jackson, Headmaster since 1992, said; ’this is quite the most exciting of all of our building projects and it is wonderful to see the difference it has made to the children’s learning experience. The needs of the future are inextricably linked with Science and Technology, and this facility combines them in a beautifully modern structure.
