Crawford Preparatory School visit - September 2005

Edgeborough families played host to a visiting group of young actors, sportsmen and sportswomen from Crawford Preparatory School in Durban and the children enjoyed interacting in the classroom, on the sports field and socially, while on tour in the UK. The highlight of the visit was the performance of Hamba Kahle, a collection of Zulu “Fireside Tales”. Jean van Elden, the Drama teacher at Crawford Prep in Durban commented that ’the children had great fun putting this collection of folk fables together. The stories are told in a light hearted, humorous manner in English and are woven together with traditional Zulu songs and mime dancing.’ Edgeborough and Crawford have established very strong links through the pupils and staff who have participated in reciprocal tours between Farnham and Durban. The exchange of cultural ideas and attitudes has been an extension of the curriculum and a rewarding experience for both school communities.
