Olympic Spirit at Edgeborough

The boys, girls and teachers at Edgeborough School in Frensham marked this Olympic Year in colourful fashion, with the well-known rings devised by Pierre du Coubertin in 1894. These rings symbolize the unity of the continents, and remain one of the most well-known of sporting images in the world.

Edgeborough has a strong sporting tradition, numbering a track and field gold medalist amongst its alumni, and many of the children vividly remember the excited scenes following London’s successful bid in 2005, in which BOA Chief Executive Simon Clegg CBE, himself an Edgeborough parent, was so instrumental.

‘Olympic Years are very inspirational, especially for youngsters’, said the Headmaster, Richard Jackson. ‘Out there will be more Coes, Ovetts, and Crams to lead the world. It is our job as teachers to give them that opportunity.’
