Pancake Day at Edgeborough School

Shrove Tuesday carries a long Christian tradition, and it also spells fun for the children of Edgeborough School in Frensham where there are hotly contested pancake races for children of all ages. Having cooked the pancakes in the morning, the children then race around the school sports fields flipping pancakes as they go, with loud vocal support and encouragement from their colleagues. This practice began in 1993, and teams compete annually for the coveted ‘Order of the Pancake’ – the equivalent of at least an Olympic gold medal.

‘It is a great way to celebrate the day,’ said the Headmaster, Richard Jackson. ‘We know that there is a serious message for us at the beginning of Lent, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all have fun as well!’

In the picture we can see some of the Pre Prep boys and girls giving it everything!
