‘The Year of the Pig’ at Edgeborough

The Nursery at Edgeborough School on Frensham celebrated the Chinese New Year in style, helped by the expert knowledge of one of the parents. To a colourful backdrop of lanterns, pictures and dragons, the children dressed up, made ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi’ – greetings cards - and enjoyed delicious ‘Ling Yong’ dumplings, traditional Chinese New Year cakes.

Mrs Jean Chak, pictured here with some of the children, told the story of the Chinese New Year to the children, explaining that this was the Year of the Pig. ‘It is very important for the children to learn about major cultural events such as this,’ said the Headmaster, Richard Jackson. ‘Not only will it promote their understanding of other cultures; it is also a great deal of fun!’
