Edgeborough Under 7’s Soccer Festival

Edgeborough School, in Frensham, welcomed teams from St Mary’s Frensham, St John’s Churt and Puttenham Infant School to their annual Under 7’s soccer festival on Saturday. The weather was ideal for players and spectators – a bright sunny morning - and the boys and girls eagerly contested each match in a great spirit of competition and skill.

Underfoot conditions were sympathetic to the youngsters as all the games were played either on the all-weather Astroturf, or in the Sports Hall. There were five rounds in all, and the excitement grew as in the final round the leading two teams, St John’s and the Edgeborough ‘Eagles’ had a tense and exciting game in which the home team emerged as narrow winners by one goal to nil, thus clinching the top spot.

The players all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and much credit must go to the organiser of the tournament, Will Newman, the Director of Sport at Edgeborough and his team of referees.

As the Headmaster of Edgeborough, Richard Jackson, said: ‘It is wonderful to see the developing skills of all these boys and girls. Most of all they are having fun, and that is what sport is all about.’
