The Upper Prep takes children through from the age of 10 to Common Entrance and scholarship at 13+.  The teaching is subject-based and lessons take place in specialist classrooms.  Facilities include a modern classroom block, a science and technology building housing laboratories, practical areas, a state of the art ICT suite and a new library.  For the creative and expressive arts, there is a fully equipped theatre, an art and design centre with CAD (Computer Aided Design), a dance and drama studio, a music centre and a separate music suite for individual tuition.  The day is extended to include supper and supervised prep, and the curriculum broadens to offer Latin, PSE and study skills.

We prepare boys and girls for entry to public school at 13+ via Common Entrance or scholarship.  The Headmaster acts in consultation with parents to determine the choice of school to fit both the academic and social talents of the individual child.  The requirements of the National Curriculum and entry into public school are blended as far as possible into a broad-based curriculum which enables children to experience specialist teaching from an early age.  We set in certain core subjects at the beginning of the Upper Prep and an extension set is introduced in the penultimate year.  Children are assessed every three weeks across the board and sit termly tests and exams.  For children with learning difficulties, specialist support is available on a one-to-one basis within the School.
