Edgeborough School is delighted to be joined by Godalming Junior School and St Polycarp’s Catholic Primary School along with Charterhouse, to produce the community concert ‘Freedom! The Power of Song’. This is one of several community choral works for full choir, massed children’s choir and instrumental quintet by British composer Alexander L’Estrange in collaboration with his wife, Joanna
Forbes-L’Estrange.
The forty-minute-long piece takes place at 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 January in the beautiful surroundings of Charterhouse Chapel. It is a powerful work celebrating the significant role communal singing has played throughout history, bringing people together in times of upheaval and struggle, which seemed an appropriate choice, particularly when communal singing has suffered so much due to the pandemic.
Along with the pupils in Year 6 at Edgeborough, the Charterhouse Choir, Year 6 pupils at Godalming Junior School and the Year 5 and 6 choir at St Polycarp’s, Farnham, the work features a jazz quintet made up of pupils and staff from Charterhouse. The piece will be conducted by Robert Lewis who is Head of Vocal Studies at Edgeborough school.
All parents from the school are welcome to attend. We hope you enjoy the performance and please do join in with some audience participation!
