Many congratulations to OE Toby (2018) who has just returned from the European Youth Lead Climbing Championships, Russia, with a world ranking of #2, narrowly missing 1st place by 1.
This amazing achievement is the culmination of a busy and hugely successful climbing season. Toby gained much experience at the early season European Competitions where his performance led him to be invited to the Youth World Championships and European Championship events to represent GB.
At the World Championship in Arco, Italy in August he came 6th in lead climbing as well as being top European and 2nd in the world of those born in 2005. He subsequently went to the European Youth Bouldering Championships in Brixen, Italy – which he won to become European Champion!
Now, just returned from Russia, he is over the moon to be 2nd in the world.
The aim now over the next 2 years is to win more international competitions and to secure ‘Aspirant’ funding\status to support a potential 2024\2028 Olympic bid.
What a phenomenal story. Toby was recently interviewed by BBC South Today news, which you can see in the link below:
Toby’s passion for climbing started at Edgeborough as an after school club on the indoor climbing wall and we love hearing about his progress and how his talent is taking him all the way to the top of the climbing world. Best of luck for the 2020 season.
