THIS spring, the Edgeborough Chapel and Chamber Choirs embarked on their biennial tour, this time making their way to the Netherlands, where the choirs spent five days based in the beautiful coastal town of Noordwijk.
A total of 40 choristers took part in the tour which involved numerous cultural activities, including very popular trips to a water park and theme park, as well as the main events which were three show stopping concerts.
The concerts were held in the Maria ter Zee Church in Noordwijk, Nicolaaskerk in Edam and the English Reformed Church in Amsterdam. The choristers performed a hugely varied programme to full and receptive audiences and thoroughly deserved the standing ovations at each venue. Singing has always been an integral part of the school and we are very fortunate to have Head of Vocal Studies, Robert Lewis and Singing Teacher, Sarah Burston, giving their time and expertise to the choristers. The choir is also very fortunate to have an outstanding accompanist, Geoff Tuson, who regularly accompanies rehearsals, services and concerts as well as teaching piano at the school.
Mrs Davies, Director of Music at Edgeborough, was delighted with the tour, which continues to go from strength to strength: “The concerts were a huge success and the children had worked incredibly hard to learn every piece of repertoire from memory.
“The feeling of camaraderie throughout was very special indeed, with new friendships made, old friendships cemented, and a pervading feeling of happiness and well-being throughout our five days away.”
The trip was capped with a tremendous post-tour celebration at St Mary’s Church, Frensham on Monday April 30th, with the kind permission of Rev Jane Walker. The celebration was attended by staff and parents associated with the school as they all reveled in the sounds of the Edgeborough Chapel and Chamber Choirs.
