MONDAY 12th March saw the eagerly awaited Vincent Singing competition return to Edgeborough.
The annual event is always much loved by awaited by pupils, parents and staff and this year saw the standards raised higher than ever.
Adjudicated by Scott Price from Cardinal Vaughan School, Monday evening’s competition was home to some stunning performances in both the Classical and Musical Theatre categories.
The competition got underway with a first round of classical or folk songs, with the results as follows:
1st – Freddie D – ‘Dove Sei’ by Handel
2nd – Izzy – ‘Vieni, vieni’ by Vivaldi
3rd – George – ‘Silent Worship’ by Handel
Highly Commended – Freddie W – ‘He shall feed his flock’ by Handel
Round Two, which centred on Musical Theatre, was equally as impressive with the standard of singing matching up to that shown in the first round. The results of the second round were:
1st – Freddie W – ‘Music of the Night’ by Lloyd-Webber
2nd – Fleur – ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ by Schonberg
3rd – Izzy – ‘My Ship’ by Weill
4th – Freddie D – ‘Master of the House’ by Schonberg
After the incredibly strong abilities on show in the two rounds of singing, it was time for Mr Price to take all things into consideration and decide on the winners of the 2018 Vincent Singing competition. Our visiting adjudicator from Cardinal Vaughn School announced the winners as:
2nd Freddie W
3rd Freddie D
Head of Music, Mrs Kate Davies, was overjoyed with the singing on show and paid tribute to the staff in the music department who were behind getting the children ready for the competition: “In the capable hands of Sarah Burston and Rob Lewis, singing continues to flourish and the results are outstanding!”
